As part of an ongoing relationship with St. Maarten’s Aids Foundation, a group of fifth-semester AUC students recently assisted the organization with an HIV Screening in Philipsburg.
“We wanted to screen the Haitian Population, so we chose to do an HIV testing event on Haitian Flag Day,” said Jesus Vargas. “Although the turnout was low – we tested 51 people – it was a great experience for the volunteers because it was their first time experiencing this activity. We used both the oral swab and finger prick rapid test to do the screening for HIV.”
The event took place on Sunday, May 22, 2011, and was one in a long list of outreach efforts that AUC students undertake during their time on the island.
