AUC's 2017-18 Clinical Education Fellows officially started their year-long fellowship today. Ainsley Backman, Sree Chellappan, Kieuvi Nguyen, Ngoc Tran, and Carl Sartori join this year's cohort and will play an integral role guiding and supporting students during in the university's Transition to Clinical Medicine (TCM) program.

The TCM program was designed in 2014 to create virtual communities where AUC students can connect, share experiences, and receive feedback during their clinical clerkships and training. Since then, more than 1,100 students have participated in 120 virtual groups, which cover topics like residency, USMLE Step 2 exam preparation, time management techniques, and patient case studies.

TCM was recently relaunched with a refined structure and emphasis on Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) exam preparation and the residency match application process. The program has also established a strong partnership with AUC's Office of Student and Professional Development (OSPD).

Clinical Education Fellows are an important part of the TCM program and facilitate all virtual meetings with medical students. Over a 14-month period, fellows are trained in medical education, facilitation techniques, and advanced techniques for virtual groups and community building. They also help students become acquainted with the many learning resources available through AUC's Millennium program, including as E*Value, APGO uWise, BMJ Case Reports, Med-U, and Access Medicine. These resources allow students to electronically log their patient encounters, submit evaluations, and complete virtual clinical cases to complement their clinical experience.

In addition to their leadership of TCM, fellows also participate in various opportunities for research, conferences, and professional development.
